Where to Find Pronghorn in Area 107

Area 107 pronghorn concentrate around agricultural fringes, stock tanks, and the rolling sage flats of the Big Sandy and Eden Valley areas.

Eden / Farson Agriculture

Irrigated alfalfa and grain fields around Eden and Farson draw pronghorn from surrounding BLM sage. Public sage benches overlooking these fields are prime glassing spots.

Big Sandy Sage

The rolling BLM country west of Farson toward Big Sandy Reservoir holds resident herds.

Rim Country

Rims along the Big Sandy River and Little Sandy creek provide cover-oriented habitat for mature bucks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many points do I need for Area 107?
Post-winterkill, non-resident Type 1 tags require 3-5 preference points. Type 2 doe/fawn tags draw at 1-2.
Is private permission available in Area 107?
Sometimes. Farson and Eden farmers occasionally grant rifle permission if asked well in advance. Never presume and always get written permission if possible.
When will quotas recover?
WGFD has signaled gradual quota rebuilds over the next 3-5 years contingent on mild winters. Expect 2027-2028 quotas to return closer to historical norms.
How many preference points do I need to draw Area 107 elk as a non-resident?
Area 107 typically clears at 0-1 preference points, and leftover tags are common in most years. Wyoming's 75/25 draw plus the generous tag allocation makes this one of the easier elk draws in the state.
Is Area 107 inside a designated wilderness?
No. Area 107 sits in the Black Hills National Forest but not inside any of Wyoming's designated wilderness units. W.S. 23-2-401, which requires non-residents to hunt with a licensed guide in designated wilderness, does not apply here.
