Pronghorn Hunting in Unit 099

Pronghorn Area 99 covers the Great Divide Basin and Red Desert country of south-central Wyoming — one of the largest blocks of public land in the lower 48. We like this unit for its scale: hunters can legitimately hunt a week without seeing another rig if they pick the right two-track. Bucks average 70-76 inches, and the Red Desert's classic open sage and sand-dune country make it a rewarding glassing hunt.

Pronghorn in Area 99 are distributed across a massive area. Concentrations shift season to season with forage and water.

North End — Chain Lakes / Bairoil

The country around Bairoil and the Chain Lakes holds classic desert pronghorn on open sage flats. Bucks hang on wind-sheltered benches.

Center — Great Divide Basin

Interior BLM country between Wamsutter and Red Desert town has the lowest pressure. Stock tanks and small seeps concentrate animals.

South End — I-80 Corridor
