The North Slope, Three Corners bighorn unit covers the Rocky Mountain bighorn range along the Utah-Wyoming-Colorado border corner in Daggett County, including the canyons dropping into Flaming Gorge NRA. The unit is a mix of Ashley National Forest, BLM Vernal Field Office ground, and Flaming Gorge administered lands. Rocky Mountain bighorn here hold the cliff bands and talus slopes above Red Canyon and the north rim of Flaming Gorge, with smaller ram groups using the breaks on the Wyoming side.

Red Canyon Rim

Appropriately named, the Sheep Creek drainage holds resident bighorn year-round. Glass the geological-loop highway from the Ute Tower area or the overlooks along UT-44.

Less-pressured pockets of rams use the broken rimrock north of the reservoir, extending toward the Wyoming line. Access is via BLM two-tracks and foot travel from the Firehole Canyon road.

Three Corners offers a mix of road-glassing and technical cliff hunting. Successful rams often come from rimrock you can glass from pavement but stalk only on foot.

Spend the first two days of the hunt glassing from established overlooks — Red Canyon, Sheep Creek, Dowd Mountain. Most hunters pattern the resident rams within 48 hours.

Stalk from Above

Approach rams from the rim down into cliff terrain rather than from the canyon floor up. Wind is more predictable from above and you can stage shots on benches the rams use daily.
