Cedar Springs pronghorn inhabit the open sage flats and grassland basins of northwestern Utah. Herds concentrate near the cedar springs and water features that give the unit its name, especially in dry summer months before hunting season opens in August.

Glass from elevated positions or road pullouts overlooking the broad open terrain — pronghorn are visible at extreme distances and rarely seek cover except during extreme weather. Track herd movements by glassing the open flats at first light and again in late afternoon when animals are most active.

Open-country pronghorn hunting demands a spot-and-stalk or ambush approach using the terrain's subtle features. Dry washes, fence lines, and any low-profile terrain break can provide stalking cover in the otherwise flat sage country. Identify a shooter buck from distance and plan a low-crawl approach using every available terrain contour.

Water-hole ambush hunting near the cedar springs is highly productive in August when pronghorn visit water predictably in the morning and late afternoon. Set up a portable blind or prone shooting position downwind of known water sources the day before your hunt to let the area settle.
