Unit 5s

The 5s unit's private ranch terrain provides exclusive deer habitat in central Utah. Mature bucks utilize the ranch's combination of irrigated meadows, native sage benches, and brushy hillsides throughout the hunting season.

Early morning glassing from elevated ranch roads or hillside vantage points reveals bucks moving from bedding areas to feeding zones. As the rut approaches in late October, bucks become more visible in daylight hours as they search for does across the open ranch terrain.

The 5s unit's private access means hunters work closely with the ranch to plan each day's hunt. Glassing from strategic positions early and late is the most productive approach. The ranch manager's knowledge of individual buck locations is invaluable for planning focused stalks.

Spot-and-stalk is the primary method — identify a target buck from distance, plan a downwind approach using terrain features, and close the distance patiently. With only 1–2 other hunters on the property at most, there is little risk of bumping deer prematurely from outside pressure.
