Where to Find Mule Deer in Unit 75

Unit 75 spans Monitor Valley between the Monitor and Toquima Ranges — a classic basin-and-range corridor with BLM land throughout. Deer concentrate in the mountainous terrain on both sides of the valley.

Monitor Range (East)

The Monitor Range above Monitor Valley has PJ-covered foothills transitioning to sagebrush-grass on the upper slopes. Deer numbers are solid and pressure is very light — few hunters target this range specifically.

Toquima Range (West)

The eastern flank of the Toquima above Monitor Valley transitions from sagebrush valley floor to PJ and mountain brush. The 11,941 ft Toquima crest is accessible from trail access east of NV-376.

Valley Floor Corridors

Monitor Valley Road (SR-82) traverses the valley and provides access to both range systems. Deer use the wide sagebrush flats as movement corridors especially at dawn and dusk.

Two-Sided Approach

Hunt the Monitor Range in the morning (west-facing slopes lit by rising sun) and transition to the Toquima foothills in the afternoon. The valley is only 15–20 miles wide, making a two-sided day hunt feasible.

Nevada Unit 75 covers the Mountain City and Jarbidge River country in far northeastern Elko County — some of Nevada's most remote and scenic terrain, adjacent to the Jarbidge Wilderness. This unit is part of NDOW's statewide northeastern Nevada moose draw group. Moose use the willow-lined Jarbidge River and its tributaries along with the riparian corridors draining the 10,839-ft Jarbidge Mountains — Nevada's northernmost significant range.

Where to Find Moose in Unit 75

Unit 75 moose center on the Jarbidge River corridor and the mountain drainages of the Jarbidge Mountains in far northeastern Elko County.

Jarbidge River Willow Corridor

The Jarbidge River and its tributaries support dense willow and riparian vegetation — the classic moose habitat. Glass the river corridor early morning before moose retreat to denser cover. The canyon walls narrow in places, creating natural funnels that concentrate moose movement.

Jarbidge Wilderness Drainages

The high-elevation cirques and stream basins within the Jarbidge Wilderness hold moose that are rarely disturbed. Remote drainages at 7,500–9,500 ft with permanent water and willow-fringed meadow complexes are the highest-quality moose habitat in the unit.
