Where to Find Bighorn in Unit 204

The Virgin Mountains rise steeply from the Virgin River valley, providing classic limestone escape terrain. Our scouting starts from Mesquite-area access points and works up into the range.

Virgin Peak Escarpment

Virgin Peak (8,075 ft) anchors the range. The limestone and dolomite ridges below the peak hold mature rams that bed on shaded faces and feed in canyon bottoms.

Lower Canyon Systems

Bighorns drop into the lower-elevation canyons draining south toward the Virgin River. These canyons hold ephemeral water during wet years and draw rams during dry spells.

Saddles and Benches

Low-elevation saddles between Virgin Peak and adjacent sub-ranges funnel ram movement. Glass them at first and last light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Unit 204 considered a sleeper bighorn hunt?
With only 2 rifle ram tags issued over a three-year window, Unit 204 sees almost no on-the-ground hunter pressure. The Virgin Mountains hold quality rams on limestone escape terrain, but public hunting intel is thin — hunters who draw must do their own reconnaissance.
Where should I base for a Unit 204 hunt?
Mesquite, Nevada (15-30 minutes from access points on I-15) has full services and is the logical base. St. George, Utah (40 minutes east) offers additional lodging and gear options if Mesquite is booked.
