Where to Find Mule Deer in Units 202, 205-208

The 202/205-208 complex contains three major ranges. Understanding which range produces best in which conditions is the key to hunting this tag.

Toiyabe Range Crest (8,500–11,000 ft)

The Arc Dome Wilderness on the Toiyabe Range holds the highest-elevation bucks in the cluster. Aspen benches on the east slope and spruce-fir on the north aspects are the core summer range. Late rifle seasons push bucks off the crest into mid-slope PJ.

Monitor Range Mid-Slopes

The Monitor Range runs north-south between Monitor Valley and Little Fish Lake Valley. Mature bucks hold in aspen pockets and mountain-brush benches at 7,500-9,500 ft. Glass the east slope at first light.

Toquima Range Mid-Slopes

The Toquima Range parallels the Monitors to the west. The Table Mountain Wilderness interior is a known trophy pocket. Expect a tough hike to get there but markedly lower hunter density.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 202/205-208 tag valid across all the units?
Yes. NDOW issues the tag as a combined hunt-group tag — a successful applicant can hunt mule deer across Units 202, 205, 206, 207, and 208 during the open season.
Which range in the 202/205-208 cluster produces the biggest bucks?
The Toiyabe Range's Arc Dome Wilderness interior produces the most consistent mature bucks due to limited pressure and excellent aspen/sage transition habitat. The Toquima Range's Table Mountain Wilderness is a close second and sees less pressure.
