Nevada Unit 181 is a southern Lincoln County desert bighorn unit covering the Hiko Range and the country around Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge. NDOW manages it within the 181/182/183/184 desert bighorn complex, and tags are drawn through the NDOW big game application.

Where to Find Bighorn Sheep in Unit 181

Unit 181 desert bighorn live on the broken limestone faces and volcanic rims of the Hiko Range and the ridges flanking Pahranagat NWR. Scouts concentrate on south and east-facing slopes where sheep sun in the morning, and on the water tanks and guzzlers that NDOW maintains in the surrounding desert. Glassing from two-track pullouts off US-93 north of Alamo typically produces first light sightings.

How to Hunt Unit 181

This is a classic Nevada desert sheep hunt — long glassing sessions at first and last light, quick moves when a ram pops on a skyline, and patience to let a group settle before closing distance. Tag holders typically spend at least 5–7 days in-unit, sleep in or near their vehicle, and scout water sources before the opener to establish a daily rotation. Shots beyond 400 yards are common; a stable tripod and a dialable rifle pay for themselves.
