East Sapphire elk use a layered elevation pattern from the high cirques south of Georgetown Lake to the lower timbered benches.
Georgetown Lake Rim
The timbered rim south of Georgetown Lake holds resident herds. FSR access from Hwy 1 puts hunters within 2–3 miles of core country.
Upper Rock Creek Headwaters
The headwaters of Rock Creek inside HD 240 are remote and lightly hunted. Bulls bugle in the parks above 7,500 feet through September.
Anaconda Range Fringe
The western edge of the Anaconda Range touches HD 240. Late season elk transition into the lower timber on this boundary.
