Benchmark Meadow Complex

Open meadow systems near the Benchmark airstrip and upper South Fork tributaries hold elk throughout the season. Bulls stage in these parks during September, making them excellent targets for archery hunters glassing from elevated ridges before dawn.

Wilderness Timber at Depth

Once rifle season pressure builds, elk push into the deep spruce-fir drainages inside the Wilderness boundary. Hunt the transition zone between NF open ground and Wilderness timber for elk staging in the afternoons before moving to feed.
