Anderson Mesa Grasslands

The broad grassland expanse of Anderson Mesa holds the unit's best pronghorn concentrations. Glass from two-track high points and locate bands before committing to a stalk.

Chino Valley Rim

The rolling sage-grassland along the Chino Valley rim provides additional opportunity, especially where stock tanks concentrate animals during dry summers.

Juniper Draws

Shallow juniper-fringed draws offer cover for stalking. Bands bed near draws during the heat of the day and feed onto the open grassland at first and last light.

How to Hunt Pronghorn in Unit 6BN

6BN pronghorn is long-range spot-and-stalk hunting on open ground. Optics and a solid shooting setup are the two most important pieces of gear.

Glass Before You Drive

We park on high ground and glass for 30 minutes before moving. Driving through bands spooks them across miles — glass first, drive second.

Use Terrain for the Stalk

Shallow draws, juniper pockets, and rolling rises give the only cover on this country. We map a stalk that stays below the skyline and arrives at a predictable shooting distance.

Prepare for a Long Shot

Expect 300 to 450 yard opportunities. We practice out to 500 yards with the hunt rifle and carry a bipod or tripod for a stable rest. Wind reads matter — high plateau winds of 15 to 25 mph are typical.
