The habitat mix of Gila River canyon rim, limestone bluffs, and rugged BLM/Coronado NF boundary lands supports a growing desert bighorn herd. Access is from US-70 and BLM Safford roads.

Unit 27S/28N rams use the Gila River canyon rim and the rocky escarpments flanking the northern Pinaleños.

Gila Box Canyon Rim

The rim country above the Gila Box Riparian NCA holds strong ram groups. Access from Black Hills Byway and Bonita Creek Road.

Pinaleño North Slopes

The lower cliffy flanks of the Pinaleño Mountains north of Safford produce sheep — scout from Stockton Pass and Jacobson Canyon access.

Outlying Bluff Systems

Scattered cliff bands between the Gila Box and the Pinaleños provide secondary habitat and occasional trophy rams.
